Balloon Sinuplasty

What is Balloon Sinuplasty™?

When performing balloon sinuplasty, a catheter through the opening of the nose into the sinus opening and then thread a sinus guide wire into the targeted sinus, providing light transmission and illumination that will help the physicians ensure correct placement of the guide catheter. Once access to the intended location is confirmed, tiny balloons are placed in key places in the nose and sinuses, which are then dilated to expand and widen the sinus passageways. The goal is to reshape anatomy to restore proper drainage. Simple. No tissue removal. No bleeding. No pain.

What are the benefits of using Balloon?

Safe and effective- The procedure has been performed on more than 500,00 patients since it was introduced in 2005. In most patients, it has been successful in alleviating symptoms caused by chronic sinusitis. Studies have also demonstrated the safety of this procedure.

Minimally invasive – The technology uses small, soft, flexible devices introduced entirely through the nostrils. These devices gently open blocked sinuses without removing tissue or bone.

Reduced bleeding – Because the procedure is minimally invasive, there is reduced bleeding. Use of nasal packing is usually not needed following this procedure.

Fast recovery time – While recovery time varies with each patient, most patients return to work and normal activities within 2 days.

Does not limit other options – The Balloon sinuplasty technology is an endoscopic tool and may be used with other medical therapies and/or surgical techniques. It does not limit future treatment options if the patients have progressive disease.
